Educational Qualifications
General Duty (GD) Branch :
- Must have a graduate degree from a recognized university.
- Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to Intermediate or class XII of the 10+2+3 education model, or similar. Candidates with a diploma that includes physics and mathematics are qualified for this program.
Technical (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics) :
- Applicants must have an Engineering degree from a recognized university in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Marine, Automotive, Mechatronics, Industrial and Production, Metallurgy, Design, Aeronautical or Aerospace.
- Mathematics and Physics as subjects up to intermediate or class XII of the 10+2+3 education model, or similar.
- Hold an Engineering degree from a recognized university in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Instrumentation, Instrumentation and Control, Electronics and Communication, Power Engineering, or Power Electronics.
- Candidates with diplomas that include physics and mathematics are eligible.
- Equivalent qualification in any of the above-mentioned disciplines recognized by the Institutes of Engineers (India) as exempt from sections “A” and “B” and their associate membership examination (AMIE).
Age Limit :
- Required Age : Candidates must be between 21 and 25 years of age.
- Date of Birth : Candidate must have been born between July 1, 2001 and June 30, 2005 (Both dates inclusive).
- 05 years of relaxation for Coast Guard troops or equivalent individuals in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
- Upper age relaxations of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) are only applicable for reserved posts.

Selection Process | Indian Coast Guard Vacancy 2025
The Assistant Commandant selection process is a rigorous, multi-stage procedure aimed at identifying the most capable and deserving candidates. It consists of five stages, with each stage being mandatory.
Stage-I : Coast Guard Common Admission Test(CGCAT)
CGCAT is a computer-based online screening test for candidates across all branches. The test will be conducted at designated centers across India.
- Marking scheme: +4 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect answers.
- Total questions: There are a total of 100 multiple-choice questions. (MCQs)
- Exam Time Duration: 2 Hours

Stage-II : Preliminary Selection Board (PSB)
Candidates who perform well in Stage-I will be shortlisted for Stage-II.
- Candidates will be screened using a Computerized Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT).
- The CCBT will be conducted in English and will be objective. During PP&DT, candidates are required to communicate in English, Hindi, or a combination of both.
Stage-III : Final Selection Board (FSB)
Candidates who qualify for Stage III will be notified after completing Stage II at their individual centers.
- The candidates are subjected to Psychological Test, Group Task and Interview (Personality test).
Stage-IV : Medical Examination
Successful Stage-III candidates must undergo a medical examination at Base Hospital in New Delhi.
Stage-V : Induction
Candidates who pass Stage – IV and are on the All-India Merit List for available vacancies will be provisionally selected for training. They will be directed to the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala for a Naval Orientation Course (NOC) as instructed. The All India Merit List will be based on the combined marks from Stages I and III. Candidates attending training at INA Ezhimala will need to provide photo and biometric information.
