Educational Qualification

You must have one of the following certificates (as of September 3, 2025):

• National Trade Certificate (NTC) OR National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) issued by the National Council for Training in Vocational Trades.
• The certificate must be in one of these trades:
  • Electrician
  • Wireman
  • Electrical Trade (under Centre of Excellence Scheme)

Important: Even if you have higher qualifications, you are not eligible unless you hold an NTC/NAC in the above trades.

Age Limit

• General Category (Others): Max 32 years
• BC (OBCM), BCMs, MBC/DCs: Max 34 years
• SC, SC(A), ST: Max 37 years
• There is no maximum age limit for candidates from reserved categories or destitute widows (with more than an SSLC qualification).

Persons with disabilities, Ex-servicemen, and apprentice candidates are eligible for additional relaxations under TN government rules.

Physical & Medical Standards

• You must meet the required physical and medical fitness levels.
• Minimum vision requirement: Standard III or better.
• Candidates with poor eyesight must provide a Fitness Certificate from a government eye specialist.

TNPSC Field Assistant Salary and Benefits 2025

• The position falls under Pay Level 2 with a salary range of ₹18,800 – ₹59,900.
• Your starting salary will be ₹18,800.

Selection Process for TNPSC Recruitment 2025

Stage 1: Written Exam (CBT)

The exam has two papers:

• Paper I (3 hours)
  • Part A: Tamil Eligibility Test 100 questions, 150 marks (Qualifying only).
  • Part B: General Studies 75 questions.
  • Part C: Aptitude & Mental Ability 25 questions.
  • Total for Part B + C = 150 marks.
• Paper II (3 hours)
  • Trade Subject (Electrician/Wireman) 200 questions, 300 marks.

• Final merit list will be prepared based on 450 marks (Paper I Part B+C + Paper II).

Stage 2: Physical Test

Only those who pass the written exam will take the practical test, which assesses your physical fitness for the job.

• Pole Climbing and Cross Arm Fixing: Climb a 9 meter pole, fix a 3 phase cross arm, and descend safely in 8 minutes.
• Rope Plaiting: Plait an AAAC conductor rope and fix it within 2 minutes.
• Weight Carrying Carry: Three V-Cross arms (approximately 35 kg) for 100 meters in one minute without dropping.

Stage 3: Certificate Verification

• Final stage to check all your educational, age, and category certificates.
• Only candidates who pass this stage will be appointed as Field Assistants.
